RE: Engine Oil Temperature

Pfunk, you are referring to EGT's, while Brett is referring to the actual temperature of the oil. Two very different things. You keep making references to the turbo and oil going through it, not sure why you think this is germain to the discussion.
Brett knows what he's speaks of, so does the Cat rep...

RE: help 3126 turbo troubles

What Deen said...
If you had a sudden loss of boost you have a leak somewhere. Changing the air filter is not gonna fix it either. Check all the boost hoses and their connections.

RE: Goodyear G159 problems?

There is no "silent recall". Goodyear discontinued the G159 and replaced it with the G149. The G159 was an old tire design and was long overdue for an update in tread design and wear characteristics to compete against Michelin's XZE and Bridgestone's R250.

RE: egt guage install

Pre-turbo. I have one on my 2005 Dodge Ram 3500 and one on my DP. For those that think you can't hurt a "stock" truck. Well my 05 stock truck could and would hit 1450 to 1500 degrees on hills with a load. The EGT gauge let me know I needed to downshift and back out of the throttle.
On the DP I lost a CAC hose, I knew right away something was wrong when the boost gauge would go no higher than 15psi and the EGT buried itself at 1600 real quick. The coach didn't feel real low on power, but I knew right away I had a big problem.
Interesting to note that Ford diesels now have a boost gauge.
Anyone look at the dash of a class 8 truck? You'll see boost and EGT gauges, including those with Cummins engines.

RE: Fluorescent markers for extension cord?

Wrap the cord with chain. One encounter with chain and the resultant repair will strongly encourage the mower operator to avoid cords in the future.
1/8" stainless steel aircraft cable attached to your cord would also be something a mower operator would only want to deal with once.
Light nylon rope, a lot of it entangled in a mower deck will also make a point.
You do realize what you suggest is bordering on criminal neglience right????
How does getting evicted after doing the things you suggest do for making a point?

RE: Fluorescent markers for extension cord?

I think you need to seriously rethink your gripe. Its public property, you DON'T own the lawn area. From my viewpoint, you are darn lucky the landlord has not removed your cord for you, permanently. I think you need to treat it like trash day. Pick it up yourself when its mowing day.
Start a war with the landscapers and the property owners and you WILL lose. You almost lost the right to park your trailer there once, why risk it now over something petty, especially when you have no right to be doing what you are doing with the cord to begin with.

RE: No Perfect Trailer Tires out there

Someone with a creative mind should come up with a tire that can withstand trailer wear & tear better than the******that's out there. He/she will be rich because people like us buy quality, reputation and durability.
That's just it, the tire makers CAN build a tire that will take the use and abuse. Problem is, the consumer WILL NOT pay what it will really cost to make such a tire. They are engineered to a price point.

RE: Camping World Tacoma Wa.

I believe you can only over night at CW stores IF you are booked in for service.
Now foB my rant, since I am well known as an old curmudgeon - Why is it that folks who can affod fancy large, luxurious SUVs and large fancy motor homes want to find free overnight spots?? Ridiculous IMHO!!!
So that when someone like me rolls in at 11pm and then fires up and takes off at 6am the next morning I don't have to DISTURB you!!!:R
Or would you prefer to have me wake you up late when I arrive and then wake you early as I prepare to leave. Driving a DP, I have to dump air to level at night and then idle in the morning until I build air pressure up in order to release the brakes and get the coach back to ride height. And I really don't want or need to pay $40+ a night for a parking space that I may use for less than 8 hours....See, know we're both happy.;)

are you guys saying that none of your Monaco products have an "auto level" feature built into the leveling jack systems? What was Monaco thinking?:S
I push one button and the coach drops air, drops the jacks and self levels....

RE: Towing two vehicles

Can't legally tow like that in California. The only way to legally tow "doubles" in California is with a 5th wheel. Yes, the laws vary by state. Some states won't allow you to tow doubles at all. In California, you need a class A with doubles/triples endorsement.

RE: Toyo tires

noleakman the best of the research I have found. 10 years is the only age limits I have ever found from any industry related source.
I also asked my tire dealer about the 6-7 years and he said that was news to him. Some do not seem to realize truck tires are very thick and the surface tells very little. The key that I read is keep the tires out of direct sunlight the best you can and run them enought to get them hot often to keep the oil working out to the surface so they do not dry rot.
Then why is it that the tire manufacturers only warranty their tires for a period of six years based on date of manufacturer or from date of sale if known? And while the tire manufacturers put out this B.S. that your tires are fine to use for 10 years as long as they a are inspected by trained tire dealer, they don't give the dealers any guidelines in writing or any training on how to inspect the tires, what is/is not acceptable, or what consitutes a safe vs. unsafe tire that is beyond 6 years old. For this reason I will not tell anyone their tires are okay if they are no longer under the timeframe of the manufacturers warranty. If the manufacturers think its safe to run them for 10 years, they should warranty them for ten years.

RE: A picture of our tandem tow dolly setup

that S-10 has a hitch on it, why not hook a boat on behind it?
bumpy :)
Because he's already over the legal length in California by two feet. Plus if did hook up another trailer, then he'd be pulling doubles, also not legal in CA. Doubles can only be towed if the first trailer is a 5th wheel.

RE: Maxxis ST or BF Goodrich Commercial T A or Michelin XPS RIB

The XPS Rib is head and shoulders above the BFG. They do not even share the same construction. XPS uses all steel construction, BFG uses various fabrics for the sidewall and a steel belt package in the tread area.
The BFG is a good tire for its price point, but the XPS is pretty bullet proof when used under extremely heavy loads.

RE: Site selection -- does size matter?

Sure, you have the right to whatever site you want on a first come, first serve basis. But I still think you're a jackass for parking a 21 foot class B in a pull thru site. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. So people won't mind if I take two sites and park my RV in one and my trailer in the other since someone took a pull thru with their PUP or class B van.
And yes, I drive a big rig since I tow a 20 foot box trailer behind a 32 foot diesel pusher. I will be glad to back into a sight if its long enough. I have driving skills.
I love all you hypocrits, on this thread you say screw em, you got there first. So how the thread where everyone was *****ing about how no one could get a sight because it was first come, first serve and people were driving up and putting lawn chairs in campsites days ahead of when they showed up to camp.

RE: Info about 2001 cummins diesel 2500 needed

Pretty much what the others have said. It sounds like you know the VP44 and the lift pump is the weak point of the truck. I'd recommend a fuel pressure gauge to allow you to monitor the lift pump.

RE: 2005 5.9L vs. 6.7L cummins

The 6 speed auto did not show up until the 6.7 motor. I think you will be happier finding a used 05-06 with the long bed you need if fuel mileage is a concern. While I won't dispute the 6.7 has more power, its not much more than the 05 motor which is 325hp/610tq. And no one is gonna argue the new more gets better mileage than the old.
Is anyone really going to notice the difference in power between the two? I have an '07 with the 5.9,my Dad has an '07 with the 6.7
The trucks are identical in every way, other than color.
We both tow trailers similar in weight.
If he can pull away from me on the hills,I haven't seen it.
He averages about 2-3mpg less than mine across the board.
I noticed the difference in power immediately, I pulled the same trailer 14,500 lbs with my 5.9 as I did with the 6.7 over the same mountain roads. The 5.9 is a great engine but no match for the 6.7!
I'm guessing your old truck was an 03? Which motor did you have? The motors in the 03's are not the same ratings as an 05 5.9. So if you're only drawing a comparison based on your 03 vs. your 07 I'd expect you to feel a big difference. Go find an 05-06 and do a comparison. We are talking 325/610 vs 350/650. Never mind the fact that they derated the 6.7 for use in the cab chassis trucks. I've driven both, the 6 speed auto is nice, but I'll keep my non DPF, better fuel mileage 2005, thanks. The 6.7 is nice, but don't try to convince everyone thats its better simply because its what you bought.
